Becca Champagne Collection Face Palette
Becca Champagne Collection Face Palette ($52.00 for 0.72 oz.) includes two highlighters and three blushes. Each highlighter contains 0.19 oz. of product ($51.57 worth), each Mineral blush contains 0.12 oz. ($38.40 worth), and the Luminous blush contains 0.10 oz. ($16.19 worth)–the palette has a total value of $106.16 or $10.40 per shade. I think there’s plenty of each product, and the size of each pan (even the smaller blushes) is appropriate and can be used with a slew of blush and highlighter brushes. Like other Becca palettes, the texture is noticeably drier and looser in the pan for the highlighters, compared to the standalone formula, which is something I notice more by feel and initial application, but it doesn’t seem to change the color, tone, or the way the product looks applied and blended on the skin (this is my only hesitation about the palette). Worth noting, Becca called out the Mineral Blushes as matte, but their interpretation of matte is more like true satin–there is a sheen to the skin but is not overly shimmery, and secondly, Becca seems to market their blushes as more buildable/medium in coverage but all three are very pigmented–this is, as a result, reflected in the rating but if you like your blushes pigmented, you should mentally bump up the ratings.
Overall, it is a nice cheek palette, though it leans very warm and coral-toned with three of five having higher-sheen finishes so it’ll be best for those who like their golds and pink-corals and more of a metallic finish than a subtle highlight. I think making either Rose Spritz or Pamplemousse more of a cooler-toned shade would have helped make the palette more versatile (maybe a mauve or plum). The packaging is heft, very solid, and some might even find it a little too heavy to carry in an everyday bag. It clicks closed, and the lid stays up, so it is usable–probably some of the nicest cheek/face palette packaging released in awhile. For me, personally, it’s very easy to wear on my coloring, and as they’re all blendable, they are easy to use as well. I could definitely see traveling with this one.
Champagne Pop is a pop of warm, peachy-orange gold with a strong, frosted finish. It is definitely the type of highlighter where a little goes a long way, and I think there is a small learning curve when using Becca’shighlights–a lighter, feathery brush and a lighter hand, as they are very pigmented, is recipe for great results. The texture felt a little drier and looser in the pan (to the touch) compared to my standalone version, which I found true in the Champagne Glow trio and the Afterglow palette. The standalone is just creamier and smoother; it feels more luxurious, but oddly, they really perform the same. They look the same applied, the color is within range between versions (especially once blended out/applied but the version in this palette seemed yellower to me but hard to distinguish the difference once applied to the face. It lasted eight hours on me. NARS Frenzy (Left) (P) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). Laura Geller Gilded Honey (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Prosecco Pop is a light-medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted sheen. Side-by-side, it’s darker and has a stronger yellow tone (compared to the more peach-orange of Champagne Pop), and then blended out, it’s marginally darker and doesn’t have as strong of a white base to it. I feel like if it was a bit darker and deeper (a little more brown in it), it would be more contrasting next to Champagne Pop, but they are more similar than they are different. The texture was very blendable, though a little dry to the touch, and did emphasize pores slightly, even when I used a lighter hand/less dense brush (what I normally use with Becca’s highlighters, as they are very pigmented!). The color lasted for eight hours on me. Laura Mercier Addiction (P, $44.00) is darker (95% similar). Looxi Beauty Luxe (P, $7.50) is more shimmery (95% similar). Rose Spritz is a bright pop of warmer pink with strong, golden frost that translated into a near-metallic sheen. I would say is too pink to be even a pink-coral but if you have very strong yellow undertones, it may end up looking more coral than pink once applied and blended out! The texture was blendable and fairly smooth, not quite as “dry” as the highlighters but not quite as creamy or as finely-milled as the standalone formula. It had rich pigmentation, which isn’t how the formula is billed (see more about that in my Luminous Blush reviews), so if you wanted a sheerer, buildable formula that really can be used as a “blush topper,” this might be a miss for you. On the other hand, if you like your blush very pigmented, this will be right up your alley. This shade wore well for eight hours and just stopped short of emphasizing pores on me. Laura Geller Fruit Punch (P, $28.00) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Benefit Bella Bamba (Palette) (P, $28.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Amaretto is a slightly muted, medium-dark rosy brown with warm undertones and a smidgen of fine, gold pearl. It had good color payoff with a soft, smooth, and blendable texture–no dryness present at all–that was easy to apply and use. As it wasn’t as shimmery as the prior three shades, there was no issue about pores or being more light-handed. The problem is that Becca, for reasons I don’t understand, says it’s a buildable formula, when it’s quite pigmented. The color lasted for eight hours on me before fading. KIKO 106 Beige Rose (P, $12.00) is warmer (90% similar). Chanel Jersey (80) (P, $45.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Cheek Pollen (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (90% similar). Burberry Earthy (P, $42.00) is less shimmery, darker, more muted (85% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Natura (P, $37.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Pamplemousse is a bright pop of medium-dark pink with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had very rich color payoff–a little went a long way–and I highly recommend using a light hand with this. The texture was smooth and blendable, but it had a slightly thinner feel to it compared to the other four shades in the palette. Again, the formula is supposed to have buildable coverage, but it is rather pigmented, so I think that if you prefer subtler, sheerer color, you are out of luck, and if you happen to prefer your blushes more pigmented, then it’s not a deal-breaker at all–it’s just contrary to what the brand claims. This shade lasted for eight and a half hours on me. Makeup Geek Love Affair (P, $9.99) is cooler (95% similar). Milani Lady Rouge (06) (LE, $7.99) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). NYX Peach (P, $5.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Red Water Lily (LE, $40.00) is cooler (90% similar). Burberry Coral Pink (P, $42.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Hipness (LE, $22.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Fleur Power (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Chanel Vibration (270) (P, $45.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
