Becca Lowlight Sculpting Perfector
Becca Lowlight Sculpting Perfector

Becca Lowlight Sculpting Perfector ($38.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a medium-dark, subtly warm-toned brown with a hint of gray and a semi-matte finish. MAC Aphrodite’s Shell (LE, $33.00) is less brown, less gray, lighter. MAC Sculpt (P, $16.50) is less yellow. MAC Coffee Walnut (LE, $20.00) is darker. MAC Nude on Board (LE, $30.00) is warmer, less gray. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

It’s described as “an adaptive contouring cream that combines the warmth of skin-authentic undertones with natural-looking shadows for a sculpted look.” For those who want a forgiving contour that can be applied softly, you may enjoy Becca’s take on it. The creamy nature of the product makes it very easy to blend on the skin, so there are no harsh or obvious edges, and if you feel like it’s too dramatic, you can easily sheer it out further. It’s moderately pigmented, but the coverage is buildable, so one layer won’t give you the kind of color you see in the pan. The consistency is lightweight, non-tacky, and dries down and seems to set fairly well. On me, it lasted about seven hours before starting to separate slightly. I think it’s best for light to medium complexions, as even when layered, it is a subtle product against my skin tone (which is about medium).

Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed
Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed

Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed ($38.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a rich, shimmering copper-bronze with warm, golden shimmer and a frosted finish. Too Faced Sun Bunny #1 (P) is redder-toned. Disney by Sephora Golden Sands (LE, $55.00) is darker. MAC Glorify (LE, $30.00) is darker, redder-toned. Estee Lauder Topaz Chameleon (LE, $42.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The powder has a soft, smooth, almost creamy texture. It’s incredibly pigmented, so it’s something that could be worn more as a bronzer or blush on some skin tones if you don’t use a very light hand. It does, however, blend and sheer out quite a bit if you want it to, so you can get more a golden warmth/sheen that highlights the skin without producing a lot of color (which is how I wore it in photos). I found the finish of this one, despite its frostiness, to be more forgiving on the skin than others, as it didn’t feel like there was such a fine line between “glowy goodness” and accentuating pores like the other shades in the formula. On me, it wore well for eight and a half hours before turning slightly patchy.

Becca Champagne Gold Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed
Becca Champagne Gold Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed

Becca Champagne Gold Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed ($38.00 for 0.28 oz.) is described as a “soft warm gold.” It’s a brightened, light-medium yellow gold with a frosted sheen and warm undertones. Dior Gold Shock (001) (LE, $80.00) is less sparkly, slightly darker, but it looks similar on. Cle de Peau Gold (12) (P, $55.00) is lighter. Giorgio Armani No. 04 (P, $59.00) is a liquid product, less shimmery. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The performance of this shade is consistent with the rest of the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Powders. It had really good color payoff that was buildable, blendable, or easily applied as true-to-pan color, if desired. The texture of the powder was soft, almost creamy, and very smooth. This shade does run yellow, not just gold, and so it may not work as universally as some of the other shades. The only downside to Becca’s formula is that it is more frosted, so a little goes a long way and too much can emphasize pores. It’s one of those products where it’s better to build up to the desired luminosity level, but the good thing is that even if you feel like you’ve gone overboard, you can easily buff it back down to a soft, luminous sheen that gives skin a glow but doesn’t emphasize imperfections. I prefer using fan brushes with highlighters like these, as it is almost impossible to over-apply! On me, this highlighter wore well for eight and a half hours before fading slightly.

Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured
Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured

Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured ($38.00 for 0.19 oz.) is described as a “pale gold.” It’s a soft, light-medium gold with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. Estee Lauder Courreges (LE, $32.00) is lighter, powder. Tarte Champagne (LE) is lighter, powder. Becca Moonstone (P, $38.00) is very similar, powder. theBalm Mary Lou-manizer (P, $24.00) is darker, powder. Bobbi Brown 24 Karat (P, $42.00) is darker, powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

“Poured” is probably not the best way to describe this product, as it’s not really intuitive; it is a cream highlighter. Here is a breakdown of the other versions of this product: Pressed – $38/0.28 oz. and Liquid – $41/1.7 fl. oz.). The pressed version is the most shimmery and has the most color intensity, while the liquid version is lightest in weight and sheerest of the three. For traditional highlighting, I personally prefer the pressed as it is easiest to use and wears the longest, and for all-over illumination, I like mixing the liquid with moisturizer or foundation. However, the pressed versions can be rather shimmery, so if you’re someone who has loved the colors and concept of the pressed compacts but have found it to be too shimmery for your liking, the cream version is an excellent in-between option. It is also a better version if you have drier or more textured skin, as the shimmer is smoother and more pearl-like than frost-like. I’m hoping to do some comparisons soon, but I don’t own all of the products so I am working on that.

The Poured formula is supposed to have “high color payoff” with a “smooth, creamy finish” and “ultrafine pigment pearls.” It was actually quite pigmented with mostly opaque coverage, which I wasn’t sure it was going to be, and once you brush at the product, the color tends to lighten a bit. I liked to pat the cream highlighter along the tops of the cheekbones with a fingertip or with a tapered, duo fiber brush (I used one by Real Techniques) and then blend it together for a seamless golden sheen. The texture is thin, lightweight with an emollient, creamy feel, so it is easily sheered out or blended on the skin. It works on bare skin, under foundation (though, as you might expect, it will depend on the type and coverage of your foundation), and over foundation with success. It didn’t cause foundation to breakdown or separate as it was being applied. My skin is normal at the moment, and it lasted for eight and a half hours before it started to fade and move.

Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured
Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured

Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured ($38.00 for 0.19 oz.) is described as a “golden bronze pearl.” It’s a rich, gold-shimmered, copper-brown with warm, yellow undertones and a luminous shimmer-sheen finish. Kevyn Aucoin Tropical Days (P, $48.00) is lighter, less warm-toned, powder. Bobbi Brown Bronze Glow (LE, $45.00) is a powder, warmer, lighter. Becca Topaz (P, $38.00) is more shimmery, powder. Marc Jacobs Beauty Close-Up #3 (LE) is lighter, less shimmery. Disney by Sephora Golden Sands (LE, $55.00) is warmer, powder. MAC Golden Elixir (LE, $31.00) is sheerer, liquid. theBalm Betty-Lou Manizer (P, $24.00) is browner, powder. NARS Laguna (P, $39.00) is browner, less shimmery. MAC Gilty Bronze (LE, $29.50) is darker, less golden. MAC Global Glow (P, $30.00) is lighter, powder. Estee Lauder Topaz Chameleon (LE, $42.00) is similar in color, powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The texture is lightweight, moderately emollient, and creamy enough to blend out easily so you can achieve whatever opacity level you want but not so prone to sheering out that you can’t get opaque color. On fair to medium skin tones, this will add visible color and a shimmery luminosity to the skin, though you can blend it out enough where it adds only a slight bit of warmth. The finish is just glowing without being too dewy or shimmery, but it’s still noticeable. It’s very comparable in color to the Pressed version, though the Pressed appears more shimmery and reflective, giving it a lighter appearance overall. I don’t have the liquid (but I purchased it–just hasn’t arrived yet) to compare it to. As I mentioned in my initial review of this formula, the Pressed will give the highest shimmer coverage with excellent color coverage, while the Liquid is sheer and has the least shimmery finish (more of a dewy finish). It wore well on bare skin and lasted for eight hours before fading a bit. It also works patted or layered over foundation, and I would recommend using fingertips or a duo-fiber brush with a light-handed application, depending on what type of base products you have underneath.

Becca Pearl Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured Review, Photos, Swatches

Becca Pearl Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured
Becca Pearl Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured

Becca Pearl Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured ($38.00 for 0.19 oz.) is described as a “white pearl.” It’s a neutral-to-cool-toned, shimmery white with a luminous finish. Cle de Peau Pastel (11) (P, $55.00) is less shimmery, powder. Chanel Poudre Signee de Chanel Illuminating Powder (LE, $68.00) is warmer, powder. Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel Highlighting Powder (LE, $72.00) is less shimmery, powder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

The formula was lightweight, thin, and lightly emollient; it spread and blended well on the skin, but it didn’t feel wet or tacky so it is less prone to disturbing base products, if you use it on top of other products. I tested and wore it over bare skin per usual, and it works wonderfully that way, along with over and under foundation. This is a shade more suitable for lighter skin tones, especially if you want to wear it at a higher opacity as it does have a stronger white base. It highlights and adds a very soft shimmer-sheen to the skin without adding color nor does it emphasize pores. It could also be used to lighten and add luminosity to a more matte cream blush. The color coverage was mostly opaque–less pigmented compared to other shades I’ve reviewed–but has the same blendability, so it can be applied heavily or easily sheered out. If you prefer a sheerer look, lightly tap onto cheeks with fingertips or a stippling brush. It wore well for eight hours before fading.

Becca Blushed Copper Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed
Becca Blushed Copper Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed

Becca Blushed Copper Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed ($38.00 for 0.28 oz.) is described as a “warm copper infused with rose gold tones.” It’s a muted, medium-dark copper-brown with gold and copper micro-shimmer and pearl. MAC Linda (LE, $21.00) is much lighter, less shimmery. Colour Pop Swift (P, $8.00) is darker, less shimmery. NARS Fervor (Right) (P) is more metallic, redder. Sephora + Pantone Universe Marsala (LE, $25.00) is lighter. LORAC Unapologetic (LE) is lighter. MAC Make You Mine (P, $23.50) is redder, less shimmery. Becca Papaya/Topaz (P, $27.00) is warmer. Chanel Canaille (89) (LE, $45.00) is more muted, redder. NARS Na Pali Coast (P, $39.00) is a cream product, redder. MAC Pleasure Model (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery. Charlotte Tilbury The Climax (P, $40.00) is a touch lighter. Illamasqua Supernatural (P, $24.00) is a cream product. MAC Worldly Wealth (LE, $21.00) is browner. MAC Sweet As Cocoa (P, $21.00) is darker, less shimmery. MAC Stylish Me (LE, $21.00) is darker, redder. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

According to Becca, the formula behind this particular shade “fuses together the soft shimmer of a luminizer with the subtle pigment of the blush.” It actually had mostly opaque color coverage that was blendable to more semi-opaque to semi-sheer coverage, but it starts off rather pigmented if you use a more traditional blush or highlighter brush. I was able to get more subtle results if I used a fan brush, but even a feathery highlight blush laid down strong, noticeable color. I think it is going to work extremely well on medium and darker skin tones as a luminous blush. With the right application, lighter skin tones can use it as well, but it’s not what I would call “subtle pigment,” so keep that in mind when it comes to selecting a tool! I thought that with a fan brush I could get more of the sheen without color, but I still had a fair amount of color on my medium complexion–and that was with barely touching the edges of the fan brush to the pan!

Aside from it being far more pigmented than described, it’s really a lovely product, and I hope Becca will venture into more luminous blush shades in the future. The powder is soft, smooth, and dense while remaining incredibly blendable on the skin for a really diffused, even appearance. Applied with a fan brush, the finish was luminous without emphasizing pores, and when applied with a dense brush, it stopped just shy of emphasizing pores, but it’s shimmery enough that it is a fine line between beautifully glowing and pore-emphasizing. I find that Becca’s highlighters look even better in person with the way the light reflects off the sheen. This shade wore well for nine hours on me before fading.

Becca Opal Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured
Becca Opal Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured

Becca Opal Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured ($38.00 for 0.19 oz.) is described as a “golden opal pearl.” It’s a medium, champagne gold with warm undertones and a shimmery, luminous sheen. NARS Jubilation (Left) (P) is yellower. NARS Frenzy (Left) (P) is lighter. Too Faced Snow Bunny (P) is slightly darker. Becca Opal (P, $38.00) is a smidgen lighter. Dior Transatlantique (LE, $58.00) is similar. MAC Whisper of Gilt (LE, $30.00) is a smidgen lighter. Chanel Mouche de Beaute Illuminating Powder (LE, $80.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

This shade had semi-opaque coverage that was buildable to fuller coverage if desired, but it could also be sheered out (or applied more sparingly) for a warm, luminous sheen. The fairer your skin tone is, the more of the underlying color will be apparent. On my medium skin tone, it gives a very slight warmth to wherever I apply it, but it is primarily a luminous sheen that’s not too dewy or too metallic. It highlights without emphasizing pores or the skin’s natural texture. The consistency is creamy but thinner without too much slip, so it doesn’t have any tackiness to it, which helps it apply better over base products as well as performing well on bare skin. This wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

It had a luminous sheen. Becca Blushed Copper (LE, $38.00) is darker, powder. Sephora + Pantone Universe Marsala (LE, $25.00) is slightly rosier. LORAC Unapologetic (LE) is warmer, powder. Guerlain Petrouchka #8 (LE) is powder, less shimmery. Becca Guava/Moonstone (P, $27.00) is lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Unabashed Bronzer (LE, $90.00) is lighter, powder. Charlotte Tilbury The Climax (P, $40.00) is rosier, powder. Becca Rose Gold (P, $38.00) is a powder. Illamasqua Supernatural (P, $24.00) is sheerer. MAC Margin (P, $21.00) is rosier, powder. At last, the final shade of the five new Poured shades (which means a comparison is coming soon–I promise!). Mine arrived in a bit of a state, after having been rerouted to the wrong location, and I’m wondering if its extra four days to go from southern California (where it went mistakenly) to northern California during a particularly hot weekend caused it to liquefy in transit. I’m not entirely sure, but my other four arrived pristine, while this one spent over a week in transit (the others went air). Other than not looking so hot, it feels and performs like the other four shades do. The texture is lightweight, not too emollient but has enough slip that it easily blends on the skin. It had fairly rich color payoff–mostly opaque–that added color to my complexion while also adding a noticeable shimmer and luminous sheen. This one seemed slightly more shimmery compared to some of the other shades. On medium-dark and deeper skin tones, I expect it’ll add some warmth but primarily a rosy sheen, whereas on lighter complexions, it can work as a highlighter and blush/bronzer in one. The finish can emphasize pores slightly if you apply it as more of a blush–it was more forgiving when it was applied semi-sheer. Rose Gold wore well for eight hours before fading on my skin.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors

Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector is available in three forms: liquid, cream, and pressed powder. Here’s how I would describe each formula:

  • Original (Liquid) has the most slip with a thin, almost water-like consistency that spreads very well over even dry batches and mixes easily with other products (like liquid foundation, moisturizer, etc.). Best for anyone who likes a dewy sheen with less shimmer and visible color, best for all-over luminosity (I prefer mixing in with a liquid foundation). Due to the pump mechanism, it is harder to get a very small amount out (if I want to
  • Poured (Cream) has nearly opaque color coverage with a stronger sheen than the liquid version. It has a thin texture that doesn’t feel wet or tacky on the skin, spreads and blends out very well so sheerer coverage is totally possible.
  • Pressed (Powder) has nearly opaque color coverage with the strongest sheen and the most noticeable shimmer particles (I wouldn’t describe them as noticeable, only relative to the other two formulations). I find it easiest to over-apply and then have the finish emphasize pores with the powder version.

When deciding, I would think about what types of products you use most often and what level of coverage you would want to have most of the time. If you have drier skin, you may prefer the liquid or cream versions. If you have oilier skin, the cream or powder versions may appeal more. If you don’t like a lot of shimmer or want something that can easily be used all-over, I think the liquid is best. If you love shimmer and the more reflective the better, the powder is an excellent choice. I think the colors are fairly consistent across the board, particularly once applied to the skin, with the liquid versions giving the least amount of color due to their deliberately sheer quality.

  • MOONSTONE: The liquid version is the sheerest, while the cream version is slightly yellower and more pigmented than the liquid and powder versions. The powder is the most reflective.
  • OPAL: All three are very similar in color, though the powder appears a smidgen darker and has a higher sheen with the most noticeable color.
  • PEARL: This is only offered in liquid and cream form at this time. Both versions have identical color to me with the cream version being more pigmented and giving a greater effect on the skin.
  • ROSE GOLD: The cream version is slightly darker with a smoother sheen, whereas the liquid and powder versions are nearly the same in color but offer different opacities, and the powder version is more metallic on the skin.
  • TOPAZ: The actual color is consistent across all three, but you’ll notice that the cream and powder versions are much, much more intense due to being a lot more pigmented. The cream version offers the smoothest sheen, while the powder version has a more shimmery finish.

Price Comparison

  • Original (Liquid) — $41/1.7 fl. oz. or $24.12 per (fluid) ounce.
  • Poured (Cream) $38/0.19 oz. or $200.00 per ounce.
  • Pressed (Powder) $38/0.28 oz. or $135.71 per ounce.

Application Tips

  • Original (Liquid) — I prefer mixing with other products, whether moisturizer or liquid foundation for an all-over glow, usually one pump. For more concentrated application, I’ll try to pump the tiniest amount out and pat over the area with my fingertip, then skim the fingertip in small circles using just the edge of the finger pad (less contact). I’ve used it over and under foundation, but if I’m using it all-over under foundation, I’d rather mix it as I think the results are more cohesive.
  • Poured (Cream) — It works well on bare skin or over liquid foundation from my experience. I like using duo fiber or stippling brushes gently swirled in the compact, then lightly patted in three places along the cheek bone for initial lay-down of color, and then blend by swirling in feathery circular motions. Fingertips are also excellent for blending out the color once you’ve applied the initial amount.
  • Pressed (Powder) — I reach for my least dense, most feathery brushes for applying these to get more of a luminous sheen of a finish than a really intense metallic sheen. For example, I applied all of the pressed powders with a fan brush for this post. Even a fan brush will still yield color and pigment, but it helps keep the shimmer at a luminous level that doesn’t emphasize pores. If you ever feel like you’ve gone over-board, dust a translucent or setting powder (in your skin tone) over, which will minimize some of the shimmer (and color, if you use a colored powder) but will not take it all away.

Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector (Original/Liquid)
Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector (Original/Liquid)

Becca Topaz Shimmering Skin Perfector (Original/Liquid) ($41.00 for 1.7 fl. oz.) is described as a “golden bronze pearl.” It’s a muted, medium-dark coppery-brown with very fine, lighter gold shimmer. Giorgio Armani #100 (LE, $64.00) is warmer. MAC Golden Elixir (LE, $31.00) is slightly less golden. Tom Ford Beauty Bronzed Amber (LE, $58.00) is darker, redder. Becca Topaz (Poured) (P, $38.00) is more shimmery. Becca Topaz (Pressed) (P, $38.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

The original Shimmering Skin Perfectors come in tubes with a pump dispenser, and the formula is a “sheer cream-liquid” for “subtle luminosity” with a “water-light” feel. For how it compares to the other formulations in the family, please see this post. The texture is thin, water-like (but not quite as thin as true water) that can be used over or under foundation, on bare skin, or mixed with your favorite base products (moisturizer, primer, foundation). It takes a bit of time to dry down if patted on top of cheek bones or the like as a more targeted highlighter than all-over. It is as sheer as described: this is not going to yield a lot of color or shimmer, which is in line with how it is marketed, just that it might not be what you’re looking for. I prefer mixing this in with moisturizer or liquid foundation for an all-over luminosity that’s never too dewy or oily. I get a very subtle warmth when I mix Topaz in with my foundation, and I’d expect it might be greater for fairer skin tones but any color change will likely be lost on deeper skin tones. On the other side, it won’t lighten-up deeper foundations, so it’s a great way for darker skin tones to get an all-over glow that won’t give a lighter or off-white cast. When patted on cheek bones (and a bit lower, since it does give me some color) as a more traditional highlighter, it is more of a bronzing illuminator on my skin tone, and it lasts for eight hours on me. When mixed with foundation, it doesn’t seem to shorten or extend the wear of my foundation. The only downside is that due to the pump dispenser, it is easy to get far more product than you want if you aren’t mixing or using it all-over.

Becca Ombre Nudes Eye Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Becca Ombre Nudes Eye Palette
Becca Ombre Nudes Eye Palette

Becca Ombre Nudes Eye Palette ($40.00 for 0.295 oz.) is a set of five, neutral eyeshadows with matte finishes. Those on the hunt for a warmer, muted neutrals in strictly matte finishes may like this one. All five shades had decent or better pigmentation with softer, silkier textures, where only one was on the powdery side. Unsurprisingly, the shades are more dupable than not, so if you already have your favorite neutral palette, I don’t think this is going to be a must-have.

Ombre Nudes #1 is a light-medium peach with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, silky texture that blended really easily on the skin. It wore well for seven and a half hours. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Ombre Nudes #2 is a medium brown with soft, warm yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a soft, silky texture that was a smidgen powdery. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me before creasing. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Ombre Nudes #3 is a muted, medium-dark brown with a hint of taupe and a subtle, yellow undertone. It had a mostly matte finish. The color had decent color payoff with a soft, blendable texture that made it more buildable in practice. It showed signs of fading after seven and a half hours. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Ombre Nudes #4 is a dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good color coverage with a silky, smooth texture that was easy to work with. It wore well for seven and a half hours before fading. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Ombre Nudes #5 is a dark, richer brown with warm, red undertones and a matte finish. It was the most pigmented shade in the palette, but it was also the most powdery, so it applies better in two thin layers (built-up) rather than all at once. It was a little harder to blend as well. It stayed on for seven and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
